NORTHWESTERN ENERGY GENERAL OFFICE BUILDING: Updates to Construction

A gorgeous building in the center of Butte’s Uptown district, the new Montana headquarters for Northwestern Energy aimed to be a revolutionary structure in space and efficiency – S. Conley was part of the team to help accomplish this with multiple system components. York underfloor air distribution with vertical Stulz AHU’S per floor for open office space heating and cooling system with perimeter hot water heating floor troughs for zoning and energy efficiency. The engineer designed the heating system around the Buderus SB condensing boilers and incorporated the use of low temp snowmelt return water temperatures to the alternate boiler connection which results in thermal efficiencies 3% higher than any other condensing boiler operation.  This integrated solution along with a York chiller with remote evaporator to eliminate the efficiency loss of glycol lowered the energy consumption 65% compared to the old office space of similar size.
